Exciting News for 13U Baseball on Southern Vancouver Island!
We are thrilled to announce that Layritz Intermediate Baseball will once again be offering 13U AA baseball, giving young players the opportunity to play competitive baseball right in their home park.
This program makes competitive baseball more affordable, more accessible, and more convenient for local families while providing players who are looking for an extra challenge the chance to further develop their skills in a competitive environment.
Fall Ball begins this September, and we are already planning a Southern Vancouver Island 13U AA Prospects Tournament to help showcase and develop local talent.
We are also committed to promoting the program throughout Southern Vancouver Island and beyond, including associations such as Triangle, Carnarvon, Peninsula, and Gordon Head, with the goal of creating more opportunities for teams to compete locally and reducing the need for extensive travel.
Looking ahead to the 2027 season, we hope to see teams participating from communities across the Island, including Duncan, Nanaimo, Cowichan Valley, Courtenay, and Campbell River.
The future of competitive baseball on Southern Vancouver Island is bright, and we're excited to help create more opportunities for players to develop, compete, and enjoy the game close to home.

Registration for fall ball is open

Coin toss for home/away
The home team is determined by a coin toss (at the plate meeting) regardless of the game location for all
games in all age groups.
Score reporting
The home team reports the scores to [email protected] upon completion of the games. It is
very important to complete this task on the evening or day of the games so that field locations for next
rounds of games can be figured out.
Pitch count
Pitch counts sheets from previous games must be brought to all playoff games.
No time limits - Playoff games are not subject to time limits
● 11U: The 6th inning is a Modified Open Inning as are any extra innings required to break a tie.
● 13U-18U: The 7th inning is a Modified Open Inning as are any extra innings required to break a
tie.
Extra innings (modified international rule)
If tied after regulation, then the next inning is played under the regular rules and the inning after that has a
player start at 2nd base (the last player out in the previous inning).
● 11U - 7th inning is regular; 8th and subsequent innings have a runner start at 2nd
● 13U-18U: 8th inning is regular; 9th and subsequent innings have a runner start at 2nd
Courtesy runner for catcher
Use of a courtesy runner for the catcher on base is mandatory when two are out. The substitute runner is
the player who was the last out.
Fair Play Rules are in effect
To afford all players equal playing time, regardless of their abilities, and to provide all players a
reasonable opportunity to play infield positions, the following steps are to be followed in all games:
11U
● All players in attendance must play at least two innings in the infield (IF) and one inning in the
outfield (OF) in each 5 inning game, and at least 2 innings in the IF and 2 innings in the OF in
each 6 inning game, except for injuries or disciplinary reasons (which must be communicated to
the Plate Umpire, the Score Keeper, and the Opposing Manager);
● No player shall sit out 2 defensive innings before all other players have sat out 1 defensive inning,
and no player shall sit out 3 defensive innings before all other players have sat out 2 defensive
innings.
● Failure to comply with this rule will result in forfeiture of the game

13U
● All players in attendance at a game must play at least 3 complete defensive innings in the game,
except for injury or disciplinary reasons (which must be communicated to the Plate Umpire and
the Scorekeeper), or except in games where a full contingent of players is not present (see Rule
2) or where a game is terminated early pursuant to weather, darkness or the 10-Run Rule.
● Additionally, players may NOT sit out for more than 2 consecutive defensive innings.
● Failure to comply with these rules may result in forfeiture of the game.
15U
● All players in attendance at a game must not sit out more than 2 consecutive defensive innings,
except for injury or disciplinary reasons (which must be communicated to the Plate Umpire and
the Scorekeeper).
● Failure to comply with this rule will result in forfeiture of the game
18U
● All players in attendance at a game must not sit out more than 2 consecutive defensive innings,
except for injury or disciplinary reasons (which must be communicated to the Plate Umpire and
the Scorekeeper).
● Failure to comply with this rule will result in forfeiture of the game.
Coach’s Dress
Coaches must wear long pants (no shorts). These do not have to be uniform baseball pants. In addition,
as a minimum, coaches must wear a team cap and may not wear open-toed shoes or sandals. Coaches
that fail to comply with these rules are not allowed in the dugout or on the playing field during games.
Rule 13
All players, managers, coaches, and parents in the GVBA must follow the Code of Conduct as presented
in the BC Minor Rule Book (BCMBA Rule 13).

Calling All Leagues!
Jays Care Foundation is thrilled to announce the launch of the Jays Care First Pitch Fund in Partnership with Their Opportunity – a new pilot financial assistance program designed to help kids across Canada access organized baseball and softball in their community!  We are pleased to share this opportunity with you in hopes that it can serve as added support for your league and all participating families.
 
Please see below for further program information, links to the First Pitch Fund application portal, and details for how your league can get involved.

• What is the Jays Care First Pitch Fund?  A national initiative that helps reduce the cost of participation in organized baseball and softball.  Eligible families can receive up to $350 per child to cover or offset their registration fees.
  
  
• Who’s it for? The fund is open to kids across Canada age 18 or younger seeking to register for organized baseball and prioritizes support for those experiencing financial barriers.
  
  
• How it works?  Families can apply directly to the fund using a dedicated application portal managed by Their Opportunity: a national children’s charity delivering grassroots sports subsidies since 2009.  Their Opportunity uses the Low-Income Measure as a guide to assess financial eligibility and will also consider additional socio-economic barriers that affect a child’s ability to access organized baseball or softball.

​Calling All 15U Ball Players: Join the Layritz Baseball Community! Attention Victoria baseball families! As the spring season approaches, we know that many parks across the Greater Victoria Baseball Association (GVBA) are reaching capacity and waitlisting players.
At Layritz, we believe every player should have a place on the field. To meet the high demand this year, we are working hard to form a fourth 15U team. Our goal is to create three balanced, competitive, and fun 15U teams, but to make that vision a reality, we need you!
We Need a Few More Players. We are currently looking for at least two more players, though we would prefer to add three or four to ensure our rosters are robust.
Whether you were late to register at your home park or your local teams are already full, we welcome players from any park in the GVBA. This is a great chance to keep playing the game you love in a supportive and community-focused environment.
